For those who'd like to give it a try, here's the recipe:
8 oz Plain Flour
4 level teaspoons Baking Powder
Pinch of salt
2 oz Margarine
2 oz sugar
3 oz sultanas (or raisins)
1 egg
approx. 6 tablespoons of milk
Method: Grease and flour a baking sheet. Sieve together plain flour, baking powder and salt. Rub in margerine then add sugar and cleaned sultanas. Pour in egg and milk to form a light elastic dough . Form the dough into ball-sized shape and place it on the baking tray (make sure the balls are not too big because the dough will expand). Brush over with a little beaten egg, bake in hot oven for about 10-15 minutes at 500F (Approx 250C).
The end result............
(No, they're not burnt, it's the egg spreads
to make it look golden brown on the top)
